Summer Safety Is Hot
Summer safety is hot. It ranks high as a search engine term, and it gives social media followers something they like to read. We’re not proposing your summer safety content have a “Duuun dun duuun dun” soundtrack with an image of a swimming shark. But it does need to grab your readers’ attention.
Water, and how many lives it claims each year due to drowning, is something that grabs interest when it comes to summer safety. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 300 children younger than 5 drown in swimming pools each year. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention point out that drowning is the fifth leading cause of unintentional injury death for people of all ages.
Those are some horrifying stats—which makes water safety a great topic to include in a series of summer safety posts.
Lots of people travel during the summer—and thieves know it. Share a series of tips to help your clients burglar-proof their property while they’re away.
Offer tips to stay safe on the road this summer (what to include in a car emergency kit, why it’s deadly to leave children or pets unattended in the car even for a short time, etc.).
Or how about a series of safety tips for recreational vehicles, boats and other personal watercraft, ATVs, and motorcycles? You could even include a video like the one below on jetski safety (we found it on the Insurance Information Institute website, a super resource for quality content!). Including videos in your blog posts will also help them to rank higher in online searches.
On the Job
Got a lot of commercial clients? How about posting tips for recognizing—and treating—heat-related illness in their workers? OSHA has a lot of useful information that you can reference, or even direct your blog readers to (remember, outbound links in your blog will help it rank higher in the search engines!).
And don’t forget work around the house. Summer is time many people undertake roof repairs, air conditioning maintenance, and exterior paint jobs–and it’s the time a lot of people get injured! Offer your followers helpful hints to stay safe doing household chores.
Keeping Summer Fun
June is National Safety Month, a great time to find and share content from organizations like the National Safety Council.
And don’t forget liability issues! How can your clients make sure their pool party or barbecue doesn’t end up in a lawsuit?
